A Study of Chromate Poisoning in Chromium Plating Industrial Workers


Abstract
This study was conducted on chromate poisoning of 30 chromium plating industries. from Aug. 1, 1973 to March 30, 1974.
This research emphasized the results chromate poisoning of as follows.
1) The total prevalence rate of chromate was 54. 9%. (56.7% in male, 33. 3% in female).
2) The prevalence rate of industry was 85. 7% in miscellaneous, 68.2% in printing, 63. 3%
in transport equipment and 61. 5% in machinery.
3) The chromate poisoning was the highest in 26~30 years old age group workers as 66. 7%. 4) The prevalence rate by size was 70.2% in 300~499 employees and 69.6% in ~99 employees. 5) The prevalence rate by year of service was 83. 3% in 10 year cf service and 75. 0% in 4
year of service.
6) The prevalence rate by subjective symptoms was 44. 1% in headache, 34.6% in dizziness, .25. 5% in chest pain (chest discomfort). The highest rate was more than 50% in 499 employees.
7) The prevalence rate of 2.9% in skin and mucous membrane was nasal septum perforation, 8.5% in nasal mucous membrane ulcer, 50.7% in nasal crust, 25.8% in nasal mucous menbrane erosion. The nasal septum perforation and nasal mucous membrane ulcer were more than 50% in 499 employees.
8) The six months in year of service was 38.7%, one year of service was 40.0%, 2 year of service was 56.4%, 4 year of service was 73. 1%, 10 year of service was 66.7% in nasal crust. The ulcer occurs from beginning to a half year cf service, and nasal septum perforation occurs from. a half to a year of service.
